Intramural & All-Star Soccer Program
With the regular season of the Intramural League complete, the play-off tournament was held over the past two weeks with the semi-finals played last week followed by a thrilling championship game held last Saturday. In the semi-final games the opener saw an overtime thriller with Inter Milan, behind the scoring of Saide Smith (4 goals), Owen Murray (2 goals) and Le-Zhan DosSantos(1 goal) defeating Celtic F.C. by a score of 7-6. Walter Dew-Hollis (5 goals) and Sam Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) provided the offense for Celtic F.C. In the second game F.C. Barcelona defeated Manchester United by a score of 5-3. Brothers Isaac Butler (3 goals) and Eben Butler (2 goals) led the offense for F.C. Barcelona while Devante Teixeira (2 goal) and Samuel Alouidor (1 goal) led Manchester United. For the semi-final games the Defensive Player of the Week Awards go to Scott Johnson (Inter Milan) and Levi Rogers (Manchester United) while Isaac Butler (F.C. Barcelona) and Walter Dew-Hollis (Celtic F.C.) were declared the Offensive Players of the Week. In the Championship Game both teams played so well that the final outcome was not secured until the final buzzer with F.C. Barcelona coming away with a 2-1 victory. Nathan Lam (2 goals) provided the offense for F.C. Barcelona while Owen Murray (1 goal) scored for Inter Milan. Nathan Lam of F.C. Barcelona and Christopher Ellis of Inter Milan were voted the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Game respectively. Congratulations to all four teams on another great season. Meanwhile, our two All-Star teams have wrapped up regular season play as well. Our Denney Center Stars ended their season a good note, winning their first game of the year over the Nashua Boys and Girls Club. Meanwhile, our Stars at the Marr Clubhouse qualified for play-offs with a second place finish in the regular season. They opened the play-offs with an exciting 5-4 win over the Watertown Boys and Girls Club. Devante Teixeira (3 goals) and Mauro Barboso (2 goals) led the team’s offense. Our All-Stars will now head to the championship game against the Medford Boys and Girls Club this week. Good luck to our All-Stars as they attempt to repeat as N.E.N.E.A.P.C. champions.
Intramural Swim League Championship Meet
The six-team Intramural Swim League completed its season with the championship meet held last Saturday. The championship meet provided several close races but in the end the Kat Fish proved too strong for their five opponents by capturing the 2010 championship. The final point totals were as follows: Kat Fish – 117, Barracudas – 105, Piranhas – 102, Sandsharks – 90, Stingrays – 73 and Dolphins – 65. Members of the Kat Fish were: Sydney Denver, Clare McCarthy, Zuzanna Stepnowski, Mateusz Stepnowski, Abigael Brown, Abigayle Crisman, Amanda Jenkins, Jack O’Halloran, Maeve McCarthy and Lauren Hernandez. Next up for our swimmers will include members of the Marr-lin Swim Team competing in the Bay State Games while at the same time, we have begun accepting registrations for the Summer Swim Team. The Summer Swim team will be open to any member age 6 to 18 who can complete a 50-yard swim. Team practices, held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings will begin on Tuesday, July 6th. Keystone Club News
The members of the Keystone Club, our teen leadership development group club, have enjoyed a busy Spring season, recently taking part in Boston Shines, holding their Annual Spring Clean-up and running a fundraising raffle. Upcoming events include volunteering at the Massachusetts Special Olympics on 6/19 and the 2nd Annual “Opportunity for Community” event on 7/10. On this day Keystone members hope to bring together local residents to support organizations in need. Keystone members will be holding a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross, hosting representatives from the Organ Donor and Bone Marrow registries, as well as collecting items for our troops overseas and canned goods, books and coin donations for local non-profits. In the month of August members have organized collaborating Keystone Clubs from across Massachusetts to take part in a state-wide Community Service projects with The Greater Boston Food Bank on 8/4 and 8/28.
