Intramural & All-Star Soccer Program
Opening week of the Spring Indoor Soccer program took place last week with two Intramural games and a session for the Clinic. In the 4-team co-ed Intramural program for members age 8 to 12, the opener saw Manchester United defeat F.C. Barcelona by a score of 3-2. Samuel Holder (2 goals) and Erilson Teixeira (1 goal) led the Manchester United attack while Isaac Butler (1 goal) and De’Andre Dew-Hollis (1 goal) provided the scoring for F.C. Barcelona. In the second game Celtic F.C. needed overtime to defeat Inter Milan by a score of 9-8. The Celtic F.C. offense was led by Kristo Mitre (3 goals), Walter Dew-Hollis (3 goals), Fatima St. Hilaire (2 goals) and Olivia McGrath (1 goal) while Matthew Pereira (3 goals), Owen Murray (2 goals), Saide Smith (2 goals) and Naomi Presume (1 goal) provided the offense for Inter Milan. The Defensive Players of the Week were Jessica Hernandez (F.C. Barcelona) and Jillian Johnson (Inter Milan) while the Offensive Players of the Week were Kristo Mitre (Celtic F.C.) and Isaac Butler (F.C. Barcelona). In addition to the Intramural League, the Clinic program, which is available to our 6 & 7 year old members, holds sessions on Friday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. The third component of the program includes two teams, one from the Marr Clubhouse and one from our Denney Clubhouse competing in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. League against Clubs from the region. This week the Marr Clubhouse All-Stars will host the Salem, MA Boys and Girls Club while our Denney Clubhouse will travel to the Watertown Boys and Girls Club. Walter Denney Youth Center Summer Registration
The third Unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester, the Walter Denney Youth Center, is located in the Harbor Point section of Dorchester and primarily serves the residents of the mixed-income housing community. Registration for the summer program that will take place at the Center will begin on May 3rd and will continue until all spots are filled. Please note that the daytime program, which is for members ages 8 to 12, will reserve 80 spots for residents of the Harbor Point community and offer a maximum of 40 spots for non-residents. The Center also houses a licensed, after-school Childcare program for ages 5-12 that includes a before school component and extended hours during the school vacations and summer. This program also accepts vouchers for eligible families. Our Teen program will offer a rolling enrollment, allowing members ages 13-18 to take part in our evening activities within the Safe Summer Streets program. Before registering, please be sure you have a current membership, which will require an application, $5 fee and proof of age. Marr-lins Attend National Championship Meet
Congratulations to the following members of the Marr-lin Swim Team who represented their fellow team members at the National Championship Meet in St. Petersburg, FL. Team members Sean O’Donnell, Emma Murphy, Martin Chomicki, Rachel O’Driscoll, Jake MacKinnon, Casey MacKinnon, Grace Scuzzarella, Evlyn Scuzzarella, Kristen Fields, Joshua Johnson, Katie Trojano, Jessica O’Donovan and David Barry took part in the 3-day meet which features some of the top Boys and Girls Clubs swimmers from across the country. This meet wraps up the season for the Marr-lins and lead our swimmers into the 6-team Intramural Swim League which begins later this month. April School Vacation Week
There will be a variety of program opportunities available to members during the upcoming school vacation. The Club will be closed on April 19th to celebrate the Patriot’s Day holiday then will re-open for the School Vacation Week from Tuesday, April 20th through Saturday, April 24th with hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for members age 8 to 12. The Teen program will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. There will be a variety of activities and special events for members of all ages to participate in during the vacation week, including the Kids Café program each afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Please note that hours for our Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Parents, remember that all Bantams will need to be picked up promptly at 1:00. There will be specific activities each day for this age group.
