Keystone Club to Host “Opportunity for Community” Event
The teen members of the Keystone Club will be hosting the “Opportunity for Community” Day on Saturday, July 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Marr Clubhouse. Members of the community will be able to stop in to offer assistance to others in need. Our friends from the American Red Cross will be on hand to run a blood drive while representatives from the New England Organ Donor Bank and the Bone Marrow Registry will be accepting registrations for those interested. Keystone members will also be accepting a variety of donations for our soldiers overseas, new and slightly used books for a local program, canned goods for a local shelter and coins (as well as cash donations) for a local family shelter. We encourage everyone in the community to stop by and offer whatever support you can. Other upcoming activities for the Keystone Club include a day retreat in July and two inter-club service projects with The Greater Boston Food Bank on 8/4 and 8/28. For information on the “Opportunity for Community” Day, or other activities of the Keystone Club, please contact Program Director, Mike Joyce at ext. 2110.
Career Launch Program
Thanks to the support of several collaborating partners the Boys and Girls Club has placed approximately 110 members in summer employment positions at all three of our locations in 2010. With our collaborating partners from the Boston Youth Fund, Private Industry Council and John Hancock (M.L.K. Scholars Program) recommended teen members have been placed in positions of employment within the Boys and Girls Club to serve as Recreation Assistants, Office Support, Group Leaders and more. Selected members took part in the registration and orientation process in June, will take part in a day-long training, and will then begin working on July 6th. These leadership positions, which assist the Club in operating programs for our members 76 hours per week, also give the participants valuable work experience and a chance to build upon or create a resume. At the conclusion of the summer program selected participants will be invited to fill a limited amount of school-year positions. For more information on the various summer employment programs please contact Teen Director, Xiomara Alicea at (617) 288-7120, ext. 1420.
