June Program Highlights
The school-year program will end with a bang as the month of June will be peppered with special events in all core program areas. In our Athletics program we will host the Annual Triple Play Olympics on 6/5. The day will include track events, an obstacle course and the championship game from our Intramural Soccer program. Preliminary play-offs and the best 2-of-3 championship series for the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League will take place this month as well with the championship games being held on 6/15, 6/17 and 6/19. Look for registration for the 16-team Safe Summer Streets Basketball League on 6/12 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a division for Girls (ages 13-18), Intermediate Boys (ages 13-15) and Senior Boys (ages 15-18). In our Education program we will close out the Homework Help, One-to-One Tutoring and our weekly group clubs programs in mid-June. Special events for the month include the Read to Ride competition, a trip to the Scooper Bowl (6/8) and a trip to the EurekaFest Inventions Exhibit at M.I.T (6/17). In our Social Recreation program we will begin registration for the Summer program (members ages 6 to 12) on 6/1, holding orientation for members invited to take part in Camp Northbound on 6/5 and 6/7, and hosting our Annual Member Recognition Night Dinner on 6/24. Award winners will receive their invitation by mail.
Additional events include a trip to the Movies (6/17) and a trip to a local Firehouse (6/23). In our Aquatic department the Swim Lesson program will wind down in early June. On 6/12 we will host the championship Meet for the 6-team Intramural Swim League as well start accepting registrations for the Summer Swim Team. For teen members ages 16 and older, we will begin an intensive 2-week Lifeguard Training Course on 6/10. Pre-registration is required. At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, we will be hosting a teen trip to Monster Mini-Golf (6/4), a 3-day Cape House Retreat (6/11 to 6/13), the Munch & Mingle (6/16) and the Parents Forum on 6/17. In our Arts program our Fine Arts classes and Photography Club will wind down with an exhibit for family and friends on 6/4. This will be followed by drop-in classes for the month of June and our participation in the Lights on After-School Poster Contest (6/11). In our Music Clubhouse look for drop-in sessions along with Rock Band, Voice Club, Open Mic and Club Band sessions sprinkled throughout the week. In our Teen program look for a trip to Fun World (6/4), So You Think You Can Dance Competition (6/11), the Teen Girls Pajama Jam (6/16), Theater Style Movie Night (6/18), Keystone Club members volunteering at Special Olympics (6/19), the Real Talk Quiz Show (6/23) and the Boys Group Camping Trip (6/26). The Teen staff will also be working with 100+ members seeking summer employment with processing (6/17) and staff training (6/25). In our Patriot’s Kids Café, we will continue to serve a hot, nutritious meal to members weeknights at 5:00 p.m. through the end of the school year. Lastly, our School-age Licensed Childcare program will be holding registration for the full-day Summer program (6/7 & 6/8). Intramural Soccer Program
Regular season play is now complete in the 4-team Co-ed Intramural Soccer program with the play-off tournament remaining to decide the 2010 champions. The final standings have Manchester United in first place at 4-2, Inter Milan and Celtic F.C. tied for second at 3-3 and F.C. Barcelona at 2-4. In the opener from last Friday’s regular season finale Inter Milan defeated F.C. Barcelona by a score of 12-3. Mauro Barbosa (4 goals), Owen Murray (3 goals), Saide Smith (3 goals), Ismael Presume (1 goal) and LeZhan DosSantos (1 goal) led the Inter Milan attack while F.C. Barcelona was led by Eben Butler (1 goal), Jessica Hernandez (1 goal) and Tyalie Campbell (1 goal). In the second game Manchester United received their offense from Desmond O’Halloran (3 goals), Erilson Teixeira (3 goals) and Devante Teixeira (3 goals) helping defeat Celtic F.C. by a score of 9-5. Walter Dew-Hollis (3 goals) and Kristo Mitre (2 goals) provided the offense for Celtic F.C.. The Defensive Players of the Week were Christopher Ellis (Inter Milan) and Michael Kerr (Celtic F.C.) while the Offensive Players of the Week were Jessica Hernandez (F.C.
