We are privileged to have enjoyed three months of relative quiet in the year 2009. Was it because of the cold weather? I am not sure, but I would like to think that good policing makes a difference.
Unlike the meteorologists’ adage that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, that was not the case for District B-3. March went out with a bang.

One incident that was particularly disturbing involved an 83 year-old male, who told police that he had a mild stroke while in his room alone. He fell to the floor yelling for help. An older female ran into his room to answer the call for help, or so he thought. Instead she pinned him to the floor and robbed him of $50 and left the room without as much as helping him off of the floor.

Thieves are not only robbing victims for money, they are also robbing them for Chinese food. A Red Garden deliveryman told police that he received an order from a house on Hosmer Street. Upon arrival, the deliveryman was approached from behind by three young males, one armed with a pipe and a knife. There was a fight between the armed suspect and the deliveryman, during which the other two suspects took the order valued at $45 and fled the scene without paying.

Officers responded to Mattapan Street for an 18 year-old male who had gone into cardiac arrest after he was found hanging in the second floor bathroom. Upon officers’ arrival, they observed the victim on the floor unresponsive. Without hesitation, Officer MacIsaac and Officer Harrison kneeled down on the floor and performed CPR on the victim breathing the breathe of life back into him. Shortly thereafter the ambulance arrived on the scene and transported the victim to the Boston Medical Center.

Officers responded to 30 Nelson St. for shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found numerous shell casings on the sidewalk between 26 and 34 Nelson. Concerned citizens informed officers that several individuals ran into an abandoned building located at 25 Nelson after shots were fired. Upon entering this location, officers could smell gunpowder and observed several beds and space heaters. No victims or suspects were found in the building.

Officers also entered 23 Nelson and discovered that a bedroom window had been shot out and a bullet was located in the molding below the window. A vehicle matching the description of a car leaving the scene of the shooting was stopped and the three occupants were FIO’d and released. Four small children were inside of 23 Nelson during the shooting incident; no one was hurt.

March 28, 1:48 a.m.
Officers observed a 16 year-old and two 18 year-old males walking on Blue Hill Avenue toward Glenway Street after a 911 call was received regarding a male being shot in Grove Hall. The individuals were breathing heavy and were wet from perspiration. Officers frisked the outside of the backpack that one of the individuals was carrying and felt a hard object that the young man stated was an old- fashion cell phone. After further investigation it was revealed that the object was not a cell phone, it was a .38 caliber handgun with obliterated serial numbers, three live rounds in the magazine and one spent shell casing. The suspect was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers. The other two suspects were FIOed and released.

March 29, 10:49 p.m.
A 23 year-old male was shot in the left leg while walking with a friend in the area of 972 Blue Hill Ave. The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center, but refused medical attention and fled the area with the bullet still lodged in his leg.

March 29, 9:25 p.m.
A City of Boston employee was stabbed three times, once in the chest, over the left eye, and in the left cheek area. The victim told officers that he was on Blue Hill Avenue in Grove Hall when an unknown male stabbed him. After being stabbed, the victim went to his estranged wife’s home for help. When the wife asked him what happened he told her that his girlfriend wanted him to buy drugs for her. When he said “no” he was stabbed by an unknown male standing next to his car.
