Teen Program News
The Teen program at the Club offers a variety of on-site activities weekday afternoons and evenings for ages 13 to 18. The Teen Center houses a computer lab, table games, various board/video games and our new Music Clubhouse. In addition, there are small group clubs for members to enjoy including the Girls Group, Drama Club, Open Cook and the Boys Group. These activities are in addition to upcoming November events which include our monthly Girls Night Activity (11/4), an Indoor Rock Climbing Trip (11/7), Ping-Pong Tournament Championships (11/10), a trip to Boston Tomb (11/12), Workshops with Girls Radio (11/17 & 11/24), the Boys Group Talk Show (11/18), and our Thanksgiving Dinner (11/23). Two additional Teen programs include the Keystone Club and the Career Prep program. The Keystone Club is our leadership development program for teens and meets every other week to plan community service projects, fundraisers and social activities. Recently, the members of the group sent invitations to prospective new members and will run an orientation for those interested on 11/10. For the month of November the group will also be hosting a Canned Goods Drive, begin weekly sessions assisting younger members in the Homework Center, and volunteering at Cradles to Crayons (11/29). In December the group will be hosting local Senior Citizen’s for a Holiday Dinner, volunteering at Christmas in the City and assisting at the Annual Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Christmas Party. The Career Prep program works with eligible teen members to secure after-school employment positions within the Club. Thanks to our partnership with the Boston Youth Fund and Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s After-School Jobs Program, 20 teens will be employed for 10 hours per week from November through late May spread over all three Clubhouse locations. These teen leaders will assist Program Director’s in all of our core program areas. For those teens interested in becoming a member of the Boys and Girls Club, you can register for a one-year membership at any of our three locations for just $5. You will need to provide proof of age and attend a new member orientation. For information on our Teen programs mentioned above, or the registration process, please contact Xiomara Alicea or Tome’ Andrade at 617-288-7120, ext. 1420.
