Website lets parents tie into youth programs

The Pope’s Hill Neighborhood Association has created a one-stop web pagefor parents looking for resources for their children for April vacation, the summer months and beyond. The site, created by the Carver family, includes applications for the Little Miss Dorchester contest (to be held on May 9th), a listing of April vacation week activitiesat the Murphy Community Center, and info on how to sign up for Neponset’s free flag football program. It also includes helpful links about youth programs across the city. The site — dubbed “Neponset online— is part of the website for the civic association, which has been active since 1957. Neponset bridge rehab meeting set for April 27

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has scheduled a public meeting to present the design for the rehabilitation of the Neponset River Bridge that crosses the Neponset River between Quincy and Dorchester. The rehabilitation, a full deck replacement scheduled to begin in late 2009, is part of Governor Patrick’s Accelerated Bridge Program.

The meeting will be held at the Port Norfolk Yacht Club on Monday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. To learn more about the Accelerated Bridge Program, visit www.mass.gov/acceleratedbridges.

Action plan for ‘Mid-Dorchester’ sought

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) and the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) will be holding a series of community workshops and visioning sessions for a ‘Mid Dorchester Action Plan.’ The first of the four meetings will be held on Tuesday, April 28 from 6-9 p.m. at the Codman Tech Center, 450 Washington St. in Codman Square.

According to the BRA, the initiative is “focused on disposition of vacant DND property in and around three business districts: the Codman Square Business District, the Bowdoin-Geneva Main Streets District, and the Four Corners Main Streets District.

Future meetings will be held on May 5 at St. Peter’s Teen Center; May 19 and June 2 at Codman Tech Center and Codman Tech Center. For more information, contact project manager Jeremy Rosenberger at 617-918-4431 or jeremy.rosenberger.bra@cityofboston.gov.

Olmsted Green green-lighted on phase two

The Boston Business Journal is reporting that the Urban Strategy America Fund has closed financing for its second phase of rental housing. Each of three planned phases include 50 units of rental housing each, which will eventually fill seven buildings. The wider plan also includes senior housing, a mental health facility and, when the market improves, some home-ownership possibilities.
Olmsted Green is a joint-venture partnership of the Lena Park CDC and the New Boston Fund.
