Members of the Boys 12 & under All-Star Basketball team at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester: Our All-Stars improved to 2-0 on the season with a 45-28 victory over the Nashua, NH Boys and Girls Club last week.
TAll-Star Basketball Program
This Winter the Club has 5 teams playing in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. Basketball program against Boys and Girls Clubs from the region. Over the past week all five teams played games as they wind their way through the regular season schedule, all hoping to qualify for the play-offs. The Boys 12&U team improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Nashua, NH Club by a score of 45-28. Leading the way were Matt Papalambros (9), Donizete Fernandes (8), Oscar Lopez (6), Victor Velasquez (6), Luke Rogers (5), Francis DePina (5), Edison Vazquez (2), Jose Cirino (2), Junior Monteiro (2), Pedro Lopes and Alberto Monteiro. The Girls 13&U Stars opened their season on the road, falling to the Chelsea Club in overtime by a score of 26-22. Jessica Teixeira (12) led the way along with her teammates Jennifer Tavares (4), Cadejia Matthews (4), Takora McIntyre (2), Clarissa Connor, Jailene Peguero, Tiffany DiMarco, D’Mitra Weathers, Jemila Barros and Vanessa Joyce. The Boys 15&U squad hosted the Brockton Club last Thursday, falling by a score of 72-65 to set their record at 2-1 on the season. Maurice Evans (25), Michael Keough (12), Marquis Brimage (7), Trey Gomes (7), Joe Shell (6), Kaylab Silva (6), Eduardo DeLeon (2), Philip Lodge, Emoni Vicente, Steven Joseph, Tre Fernandes and Aloisi Barbosa led the 15 & under squad. The Girls 18&U team now stands at 1-4 after putting forth a strong effort but falling to the Chelsea Club by a score of 46-20. Leading the offense for our All-Stars were Tateyana Almeida (6), Brianna Hardy (6), Shamanique Knighton (3), Aissa Duarte (2), Tonecia Johnson (2), Noemia Chicha (1), Cila Brandao, Ashley Amado, Amy Gomes and Adrianna Miranda. Finally, the Boys 18&U team stopped a 2-game losing streak by defeating the Waltham Club 59-48. Leading the way on offense were Michael Montrond (12), Joseph Centeio (10), Joey Pires (9), Tyrell Pugh (8), Alex DePina (5), Racquish Leard (5), Kendrick Jackson (4), Rosevelth Centeio (2), Beethovens Laguerre (2), Eric Johnson (2), Jonathan Burgos and Rafael Figuereo. All five teams will continue regular season play into March followed by the play-off tournament for those teams qualifying. Social Recreation News
The Social Recreation program is based out of the gamesroom and serves members ages 6 to 12. The program offers a variety of tournaments, drop-in activities, small group clubs, special events and field trips. Each afternoon at 3:00 there are open games followed by large group activities at 4:00. The gamesroom then shifts into dinner mode as the Kids Café program begin at 5:00 on weekday afternoons. Offered in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank, the program provides a hot, nutritious meal to registered members. After dinner has been served there is another large group activity offered at 6:00 followed by activities for our Junior (ages 10-12) members starting at 7:00. In addition to these activities we also offer three group Clubs. Our Girls Group meets on Mondays at 6:00, the Torch Club meets on Thursdays at 6:00 and Open Chef meets on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. Also, keep an eye out for upcoming special events such as our Roller Skating field trip on 2/20 and a “Glow in the Dark” Party on St. Patrick’s Day (3/17). Keystone Club News
The Keystone Club, our Teen Leadership program has planned out a busy schedule of activities for the late Winter and Spring seasons. The group will close out February with a Cultural Fair on 2/28 in the gamesroom and that will be followed by an Orientation for new members to the group on 3/13. In April we will host an inter-Club Scavenger Hunt on 4/11 and participate in the Boston Shines city-wide clean-up on 4/25. On 5/16 we plan to host our Community Event/Yard Sale, which will be followed by a Summer Clean-up on 6/13 and our Summer Outing to Six Flags on 6/27.
