South Boston’s City Councillor Bill Linehan will meet with his counterparts on the Limerick City Council while on a personal trip to Ireland.
Linehan, who is leaving at the end of this week and will be in Ireland through next week, will talk up Boston to the council. “Folks over there are struggling with their economy,” said Linehan, who chairs the Boston City Council’s Economic Development Committee.
Linehan has gotten to know Limerick City Councillor Kevin Kiely, who visited Boston recently. Kiely has served as president of the council in Limerick, where the president of the council also doubles as the mayor.
Linehan visited Ireland once before, traveling to Cork to visit relatives. He plans to visit family while on next week’s trip as well, he said.
Linehan was elected in May 2007 and will likely see a challenge from Suzanne Lee, a former Boston school principal, this fall.
