The head of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts said last night he is backing John O’Toole in the race to succeed City Councillor Maureen Feeney.
“If you got a problem, he is someone you can go to. He can get it fixed,” Darnell Williams said at a “meet-and-greet” house party for O’Toole hosted by Richard O’Mara and Robert Ferrini in the Cedar Grove neighborhood.
According to the O’Toole camp, Williams added: “So why would a Roxbury guy come all the way down to Dorchester to tell you something many of you already know. I am here because I think it is important. John is the person who will be able to deal with all of the issues across all of Dorchester. That is why I am here. If I did not think that John could do this job better than anybody else, I would not be here.”
The president and CEO of the ULEM, Williams joined the organization in 2001. He was previously a manager at Massachusetts General Hospital and head of the Springfield branch of the NAACP.
