Nonprofit grocery store The Daily Table opens Thursday

The Daily Table, a nonprofit grocery store founded by former Trader Joe’s President Doug Rauch, plans to open Thursday after a brief setback from licensing issues with the city.

Beginning Thursday, the store will be open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at its location in Codman Square

"Daily Table was founded on the premise that the solution to hunger and obesity is not a full stomach but delicious, wholesome and affordable food," said Sheila M. Green, spokesperson for the restaurant, in an email to the Reporter. "America wastes 40 percent of the food that we produce, while one in six Americans is food insecure, which means they do not have reliable access to nutritious and affordable food. Daily Table receives excess food from growers, supermarkets, manufacturers and food distributors. And, all new hires are from the neighborhood."
