A man was fatally shot in a residential area of Mattapan mid-afternoon Friday, police said.

Officers responded to a call for shots fired in the area of 17 Doone Ave. just before 3:30 p.m. They found a man in his 40s, whose identity has not been released, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. This shooting marks the city's 18th homicide this year.
