Murphy steps aside at Harvard Street Health

Charley Murphy, who has led the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center on Blue Hill Avenue since 2013, stepped down from the role this week. Murphy resigned to take on a new role as a vice-president at Steward Health Care System, which includes Carney Hospital.

Claudia Liranzo will serve as the interim CEO at Harvard Street. The board of directors at the health center has retained Zurick Davis, a Woburn-based health care employment firm, to conduct the search for Murphy’s replacement.

Murphy oversaw the expansion of media services at Harvard Street during his tenure and led the opening of a anew veterans outreach center. Harvard Street also attained full federal qualifications on Murphy’s watch.

When he joined Harvard Street in 2013, Murphy said he wanted to get back to a “mission-driven organization,” akin to his time in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Legislature, where he served as the powerful chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for several years.
