Scaring up Halloween fun in Dot, Mattapan, and beyond

The Cedar Grove Gardens Harvest Festival includes carriage rides through the cemetery.

Halloween is Tues., Oct. 31 but there are plenty of opportunities to get in the spooky spirit before then in Dorchester, Mattapan and beyond.

Cedar Grove Cemetery Annual Harvest Festival

The gold standard for Dot Halloween fun. Sun., Oct. 29 from 1-3 p.m. Free and open to the public. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes. Piñata’s, drink apple cider, eat some popcorn and get some balloons, and be prepared for a horse drawn carriage ride for a tour of the scenic Cedar Grove Cemetery. BPD District B-3 Haunted House

Fri., Oct. 27 from 4-8 p.m. Join Captain Haseeb Hosein and the Area B-3 Officers for food, entertainment, music, dance party, fun activities, and — of course — Halloween candy! Costumes are encouraged.

Pumpkin Float in Pope Park
The 16th annual Neponset Pumpkin Float will begin at 6 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 26 at Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester. Sponsored by DCR and Neponset River Greenway Council, the event is free, but you must bring your own carved pumpkin (no bigger than 8 inches). Candles and floats are provided. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and costumes are encouraged.

BYCF Skate Night at Chez Vous

Frog Pond Pumpkin Float 2017

Halloween Trunk O’ Treat on River Street

Halloween Hunt at Adams Street BPL

Wed., Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Find clues on a spooky scavenger hunt and collect treats along the way. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Please wear a costume!

Boston Grown-Up’s Museum: Fright Night

Thurs., Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. We’re throwing open the doors to Boston Children’s Museum to those who are young at heart. Get ready for some spooky surprises, and dress up in some playful guises. Look wacky and crazy, wicked or nice, dress up in a costume that will suffice. Enjoy the exhibits and explore all you want, but be careful of those who may choose to haunt!
