Gunman convicted in Gallivan Boulevard road rage murder

A 31-year-old Dorchester man was found guilty Tuesday of murdering a young man in the parking lot of the Gallivan Boulevard McDonald’s in April 2017. Jurors returned a first-degree murder verdict against Deonarine Ganga for shooting and killing Joey DeBarros, 21, after what prosecutors described as a “chance encounter and verbal exchange in traffic near the intersection of Gallivan Boulevard and Granite Avenue” on April 13, 2017.

The broad daylight shooting resulted from what should have been “nothing more than a traffic dispute,” according to District Attorney John P. Pappas. Instead, prosecutors proved that Ganga fired multiple shots into DeBarros’ car.

Ganga will get a mandatory life term in prison for the murder. His sentencing hearing is set for Wednesday.
