Special Events Help End Summer Program

The Club concluded its Summer program with two very special off-site events for our members – Camp Northbound and the Disney for Kids trip. Camp Northbound returned for its 5th year, bringing 150 members to the outdoors of Bridgton, Maine for a one-week overnight camping experience. Many thanks to the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and the leadership team from Camp Micah for making this trip possible. The following week, 110 youth joined 15 chaperones on our 19th Annual Disney for Kids trip which saw these selected members attend a variety of theme parks over a five-day period. Once again the trip was a tremendous success and our thanks goes out to Board Member, Don Rodman and the Rodman Ride for Kids for making the opportunity possible. For info on upcoming special events please contact VP of Programming, Mike Joyce at ext. 2110.

Marr-lin Swim Team Starting Up

The Marr-lin Swim Team will be hitting the water soon as our swimmers prepare for the upcoming N.E.N.E.A.P.C. schedule. The team will hold try-outs (50 yd. swim) for boys and girls ages 6 to 18 on 9/21 and 9/27. On 9/24 there will be a meeting with parents of returning swimmers followed by a second meeting on 9/28 for parents of new swimmers. Practices for new and experienced swimmers will begin on 9/30. The dual-meet schedule against Boys and Girls Clubs from the Eastern, Massachusetts and New Hampshire will begin in late October and will run through the league championship meet held in early February at U-Mass Boston. The Marr-lin Swim Team, while competitive in their league, stresses sportsmanship, dedication and hard work. Practices are held four evenings a week and meets are typically held on Saturdays. For more information please contact Aquatic Director, Aquiles Gomes at ext. 2220.

All-Star Floor Hockey Try-outs

As part of the Fall Athletic program the Club will sponsor two All-Star Floor Hockey teams made up of players from our 18-team Intramural program. These two teams, one for Girls ages 13 & under and one for Boys ages 13 & under, will play home and away games against Boys and Girls Clubs from Massachusetts and New Hampshire in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. league beginning in October. The try-outs for the Girls All-Stars will be on 9/21 (6:00 p.m.) while the Boys All-Star team will be held on 9/22 (6:00 p.m.). Player ages are determined as of September 1, 2010 and there is no cost to participate. Players must supply their own stick which must have a plastic or fiberglass blade. In addition to these two teams, our Club will invite Clubs from the region to participate in one-day tournaments in October for Girls 18 & under and Boys 16 & under. Look for additional information on these two teams as the dates approach.
