The 'Donald Duck' vote

City Councillors At-Large Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon sat down with the Jamaica Plain Gazette soon after they announced their "ticket." And Yoon, who lost to Flaherty by about 2,300 votes, didn't exactly have the warmest words for fourth place finisher Kevin McCrea's effort.  Read more

Ward 5 Dems endorse Menino

The Ward 5 Democratic Committee on Monday night endorsed Mayor Thomas Menino. The breakdown of the vote: Menino received 18 votes, City Councillor At-Large Sam Yoon received 4 votes and City Councillor At-Large Michael Flaherty received 2 votes. South Ender Kevin McCrea didn't receive any votes, though a few committee members spoke in favor his nomination. The ward includes Back Bay, Beacon Hill and Bay Village. The vote followed an hour-long forum between the four candidates that touched on city planning and anti-crime policies, with few comments on the topic du jour, City Hall employees' deletion of emails, a possible violation of the state public records law.

What we learned from Debate 2

We learned a couple of things at Thursday’s rollicking FOX25/Herald debate, the last televised face-off before the Sept. 22 preliminary: Michael Flaherty doesn’t know how much a ride on the MBTA costs. Mayor Thomas Menino thinks that Boston streets are based on ancient cow paths. Kevin McCrea has an expansive view of what corruption is and is all about visiting schools one day a week if he becomes mayor. And Sam Yoon is nothing if not consistently on message in arguing the mayor has too tight a grip on City Hall.  Read more
