A 22-year-old Dorchester man has been arrested in connection with a brazen October shooting that killed a young woman from Malden and wounded two other people in what prosecutors say was a barrage of at least 21 bullets. Boston Police say Dkhari Wornum-Brown will be charged with murder and other gun charges after his early-morning arrest on Tuesday morning at an apartment on Ruggles Street in Roxbury.
Police say the arrest followed “an extensive and ongoing investigation” after three people were shot outside 2 Hiawatha Rd. in Mattapan — right at the corner of Blue Hill Avenue— around 1:24 p.m. on Oct. 11.
G’Kiyah Lewis, 18, a high school student from Malden, died from her injuries on Nov. 7. Two adult male victims who were also shot at the same scene will survive, according to authorities.
At his arraignment on Monday, Wornum-Brown was ordered held without bail by Judge Rebeca Figueroa. He is due back in court on February 5 for a probable cause hearing, according to DA Kevin Hayden’s office.
Prosecutors said Monday that Wornum-Brown was the alleged shooter and one of two men who pulled up on a scooter and unloaded on a group of people on a porch. The other suspect has not been named, but prosecutors say there is a warrant out for that person’s arrest.
“Officers were able to identify and locate the two men through a combination of video, GPS tracking, and other circumstantial evidence,” Hayden’s office said.
