The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute drew nearly 5,000 participants on Sunday for the 30th Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace, an event honoring victims of violence and supporting families impacted by homicides.

The walk began and ended at Town Field in Fields Corner under the theme “30 Years Strong,” the annual fundraiser brought together survivors, elected officials, advocates, and community leaders for a walk through Dorchester followed by a community rally and concert. Organizers said the event has raised nearly $500,000 toward a $600,000 fundraising goal they hope to reach by Father’s Day.

Founded by Clementina Chery after the 1994 murder of her son Louis D. Brown, the Peace Institute provides advocacy, training, and support services for families and communities affected by violence. Sunday’s event also featured live music, local food vendors, and statewide participation in a “Turn Massachusetts Purple” campaign honoring lives lost to violence.
