Amidst the excitement of the World Cup run for the Cabo Verde soccer team, a group of Cape Verdean residents from Dorchester and beyond gathered for an event put on by Vanilda Sequeira called “Cape Verde in Frames.”

The event was held in the Second Church in Dorchester in early June and featured DJ Jose Andrade, vendors, food and socializing to celebrate the showcasing of the Cape Verdean culture via soccer.

Sequeira, the co-owner of Pizza 24 restaurant in Fields Corner, said the project “tells the story of Cape Verde through images, framed exhibits, music, dance, poetry, and storytelling, showcasing the richness of our culture and the strength of our identity.

“Each frame,” she pointed out, “represents a piece of our history and our journey, highlighting the traditions, natural beauty, and spirit of the Cape Verdean people.

“Our participation in the World Cup is more than a sporting milestone; it is a source of national pride and a powerful symbol of unity for the Cape Verdean diaspora around the world,” she continued. “Through this event, we celebrate not only our achievements in football but also the culture, resilience, and dreams that define our nation.”

The event also supported Escola Abela, a school located in Terra Branca, Cabo Verde.
