Pony-tailed gunman sought in rash of local store robberies

A rash of armed robberies of convenience stores — including three in Dorchester’s C-11 police district in recent days—prompted Boston Police to issue a public alert this week. Based on surveillance images, investigators believe that the same man is likely responsible for several hold-ups citywide.

The most recent incidents targeted local stores during early morning hours. On Monday, a white Hispanic male flashed a gun at a worker inside the CVS store on Morrissey Boulevard. The incident took place at about 2:38 a.m., according to Captain Richard Sexton, commander of the C-11 police district.
“What we’ve seen is one suspect in the store, who gets them to open the register with a means of purchasing something and then he makes his move, displaying a firearm,” Sexton told the Reporter.

Gerard’s Adams Corner store was robbed on Saturday, April 2, just after it opened for the day around 5:30 a.m. A third Dorchester store— the 7-11 gas station on Morrissey Boulevard, was also hit on March 20— apparently by the same gunman that was caught on tape on Monday robbing the CVS across the street. The Premier Petrol gas station at 82 River Street in Mattapan was also robbed at gunpoint on March 21 at about 6:30 a.m.

Captain Sexton said that investigators are still probing two other incidents near Savin Hill for possible links to the suspect. The corner store at Pleasant Street and Savin Hill Ave. was robbed on March 25. A gas station on Pleasant Street was also robbed on March 2.

Sexton said Boston Police are also seeing similar store robberies in other police districts and outside of the city. A 7 Eleven store on Huntington Ave. in Roxbury was robbed at 2:14 a.m. on Monday, about a half-hour after the robbery at the Morrissey Blvd. CVS. Also, a Shell gas station in South Boston was robbed by a suspect matching the same description on March 29.

The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male with facial hair goatee. In two different surveillance images he is shown wearing a black puffy vest with black long sleeve undershirt, blue jeans and a black baseball hat with a ‘B’ on it. He is further described as 25 years old, 5’6’’, 180lbs., slim build, with a brown ‘bushy’ ponytail.
