The St. Marks Area Civic Association on Tuesday voted 18-1 in favor of a project that would convert a two-story, three-family Victorian home on Dix Street into a three-story, five-family house.

Mark Glynn and his architect, Tim Johnson, presented the 23 Dix St. proposal, which would rise an average of 34.5 feet above the sloping lot. Five condominiums are planned for the large three-story house. Glynn plans to live in the top floor unit, where he also works from home.

“I’m going to be living in one of these condos, so I’m going to make sure it gets every bit of work it deserves and I will personally try to ensure that it comes out well and that it’s going to look nice and improve the neighborhood,” Glynn said.

The building would remain within the same footprint, with additions to the third floor and basement of the structure. Living space would total about 7,500 square feet, comprising two units with two-bedrooms and two bathrooms, a three-bed and three-bath unit, a three-bed and two-bath unit, and the top floor four-bed and four-bath unit. The backyard would contain five two-car tandem parking spaces.

Abutters present said they approved of Glynn’s project and appreciated the neighborhood outreach he and his wife had conducted beforehand.
