Quincy businessman Thomas Farrington, founder of the Prostate Health Education Network, and Reverend Richard Man Chan Law, the pastor for the Chinese Ministry at Wollaston Lutheran Church in Quincy, have joined the Board of Directors at Dorchester’s Carney Hospital.
Farrington founded the Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) in 2003 following his treatment for prostate cancer in 2000.
“His experience, advocacy and compassion for people in our community who are battling and recovering from prostate cancer makes his advice and experience invaluable,” said Carney President Walter Ramos, who noted that PHEN is recognized as the leading prostate cancer patient education and advocacy organization focusing on African Americans, the population most impacted by the disease.
Farrington has served on the board of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce; U.S. Export/Import Bank and was a member of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Rev. Richard Man Chan Law arrived in Quincy in 1989 and has been a leader in developing programs which serve Asian immigrants.
“Pastor Law’s longstanding commitment to the Asian community in Quincy will provide Carney Hospital with insight and cultural sensitivity” said Ramos. “We at Carney understand the importance of acceptance, knowledge, and awareness of cultural values to the healing process and overall well-being.”
Rev. Law serves as executive director of the Asian American Service Association. A native of Hong Kong, he earned a Doctor of Ministry at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton.
