Every year on the first Sunday in June, Dorchester Day is celebrated to commemorate the settlement of this town-turned-neighborhood in 1630. Dot Day highlights our diverse community and the people who were born here, raised here, and the people who live here now by choice. It’s tradition.
It’s about gathering to have a party with your neighbors, friends and family among the three-deckers trying to top past Dorchester Days. And, of course, it’s all about wearing old faithful garb: “OFD” and “Dot Rat” t-shirts.
Dorchester’s own College Hype has a selection of over 40 unique designs representing and promoting Dorchester. This year, College Hype is promoting their “Dorchester, Born, Raised, and Proud” logo which comes in t-shirts, sweatshirts and mugs, according to owner of College Hype, Jack Doherty.
“[My favorite part of Dot Day is] seeing old friends come back to the neighborhood and share stories about growing up in such a great place,” says Doherty. “This is one of reasons we started DorchesterApparel.com. It gives people who live far away a chance to display their pride, wherever [they] roam.”
The top-selling shirts are the classic “Parishes of Dorchester” and “All Roads Lead to Dorchester,” which can be customized for other neighborhoods, too.
Pop up stands for College Hype will be at the gas station on Gallivan Boulevard and Hallet Street and display tents and flags are around the building that houses College Hype’s factory and store is located in Adams Corner.. T-shirts range from $5-20.
