Organist Sunstein returns to Dot for All Saints concert

Two Dorchester-based

Two Dorchester-based organizations, Convergence Ensemble and The Bach Project, will host a benefit concert at the Parish of All Saints next Friday (May 9) beginning at 7 p.m.

The Convergence Ensemble, founded in 2015 by the pianist Rachel Goodwin, is a nonprofit that presents chamber music to audiences around New England.

The Bach Project at Ashmont Hill Chamber Music, which celebrates the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, was founded two years later by Andrew Sheranian.

When the two organizations join forces next week, the performance will feature music theorist Aaron Sunstein on the church’s historic Fisk Organ.
Though he now lives in Sweden, Sunstein is no stranger to the Ashmont neighborhood. Rachel Goodwin is his mother, and she raised him here in Dorchester.

And when he was a boy, Sunstein sang in the Choir of Men and Boys at the Parish of All Saints on Ashmont Street, where Sheranian was the assistant organist.

“It’s a privilege and joy for me to return home to one of the organs I love most in the world and the church I love most in the world to play some of the greatest music ever written for my instrument,” said Sunstein.

“It is also an honor to raise money for two organizations that do so much to bring fantastic music to the community. We need culture more than ever right now. Please join us!”

Sunstein will be performing Bach’s Clavier-Übung III on the Centennial Organ. While the event is free and open to the public, donations of $20 or more will be accepted.
