The city of Boston sponsors a Zero Waste Day Drop-off this Saturday (May 17) from 8:30 a.m.to noon at Central DPW facility, 400 Frontage Rd., Boston. Proof of residency required. The city of Boston hosts a White Stadium Contracting Opportunity Fair at the Grove Hall Library, 41 Geneva Ave., Dorchester next Tuesday (May 20) from 6 to 8 p.m. Meet members of the team and learn about opportunities to bid on contracts related to the design, construction, and operation of the stadium. The 45th annual Ashmont Hill Yard Sale takes place this Saturday (May 17) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stroll through the neighborhood to enjoy the Victorian architecture and lush gardens that distinguish this pocket of Dorchester. The Little Miss and Young Miss Dorchester contests are scheduled for this Saturday (May 17) at the Saint John Paul II Academy’s Columbia Road campus. Girls ages 7 to 9 will compete for the title of Little Miss Dorchester, while those ages 10 to 12 will be vying to become 2025’s Young Miss Dorchester. Applications will be available online soon at dotdayparade.org and must be submitted by May 16. 

The Dorchester Historical Society presents “From the Top of the Bog to Boston,” a talk by author and historian Kathleen T. Cummings this Sunday (May 18) at 2 p.m. at Boston Collegiate Charter School, 11 Mayhew St. The brief DHS annual meeting will precede the talk.

Dorchfest
, the annual free porchfest-style music festival in the Ashmont-Adams neighborhood, will be held on Sat., May 31, from noon to 5 p.m. at more than two dozen locations. Go to dorchfest.com for more information and schedule.

The Preston Settles Memorial Fund will host a Casino Night on Wed., June 11, from 6 to 11 p.m. at The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St., Boston. Hundreds of guests committed to increasing awareness around sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes will gather for a fun-filled, purposeful evening of casino games, music, dancing, delicious food headlined by chefs Lydia Shire and Douglass Williams, amazing auction items, and more—all in support of increasing on-site AED/defibrillator availability at sporting events beyond the current limited requirements at health clubs and schools. The event memorializes Preston Blair Settles, who passed away at 15 years old due to a sudden cardiac arrest caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) while playing basketball.
