A 21-year old Dorchester man was fatally shot in the head on Munroe Street near Walnut Avenue across from Horatio Harris Park in Roxbury, around 2:55 p.m. on Tues., May 13. Boston Police say the victim — later named as Justin Bettencourt— was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers found at least seven shell casings at the scene.

A Mattapan man was sentenced to 17 to 24 years in state prison on Monday for murdering a 49-year-old man in May 2020. Yaliek Allah-Barnes pled guilty to shooting Derek Fitzpatrick on the front-porch of a house on Bernard Street. Before the sentencing, Fitzpatrick’s father spoke of his pride for his son, saying he was “quite a community worker,” and that “he was taking senior citizens to church, picking them up Sundays.”

Three men were arrested early last Saturday morning (May 17) after police say they showed up at a loud outdoor party on Harlow Street in Dorchester with loaded guns. According to a BPS account, officers called to the chaotic scene around 2:30 a.m. “encountered a crowd of more than 50 individuals congregated outside the residence.
As officers approached, they observed two males, later identified as 22-year-old Kevin Daveiga and 19-year-old Xavyan Figueroa, both of Dorchester, exhibiting behaviors consistent with individuals armed with firearms.” Police said that a third man— 28-year-old Aldio Barbosa of Dorchester— was seen “running across the street while clutching his waistband.”

Police reported that members of the crowd tried to impede arrests, prompting officers to issue a distress call. A 31-year-old woman— Alidia Barbosa of Dorchester —was taken into custody and charged with assaulting “multiple officers.” Police noted the seizure of three guns during the fracas.

Boston Police are searching for a man (pictured above) they say used a gun to hold up the Quincy Variety Store at 236 Quincy St. at the corner of Magnolia Street around 7 a.m. on Monday (May 19). The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money out of the cash register drawer before leaving in the direction of Kineo Street wearing a gray New England Patriots hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, and a face mask. Boston Police ask anyone with information to call 617-343-4275 or send a text with TIP to CRIME (27463).
