The Dorchester Day Parade Committee will host the annual Chief Marshal Banquet at Florian Hall next Thursday (May 29) at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are required ($50). Contact 855-367-3299 or Dorchesterdayparade@gmail.com to order.

Dorchfest, the annual free porchfest-style music festival in the Ashmont-Adams neighborhood, will be held next Saturday (May 31) from noon to 5 p.m. at more than two dozen locations. Go to dorchfest.com for more information and schedule.

The annual Dorchester Day Parade starts at 1 p.m. on Sun., June 1. The parade steps off from the corner of Richmond Street and Dorchester Avenue and follows a route up Dot Ave to Columbia Road. See next week’s Reporter for an up-to-date roster of participants. Street closures on Dorchester Avenue and Richmond Street will begin Sunday morning and cars will be towed from both Richmond Street and Dot Avenue if they are not moved in the hours before the parade.

Dorchester Open Studios, a two-day event hosted at Humphreys Street Studios, will be held on June 7-8 from noon to 5 p.m. at 11 Humphreys St. in Uphams Corner. Support and connect with local artists and tradespeople. See HumphreysStreetStudio.com for more info.

The City of Boston will host a reception to celebrate the winners of the 2025 Legacy Business Awards on Tues., June 3, 5:30 p.m. at the Calderwood Pavilion, 575 Tremont St., Boston. The award ceremony will be followed by a reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.  There will be live music and entertainment, and a chance to meet this year’s awardees.

The Preston Settles Memorial Fund will host a Casino Night on Wed., June 11, from 6 to 11p.m. at The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St., Boston. Hundreds of guests committed to increasing awareness around sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes will gather for a fun-filled, purposeful evening of casino games, music, dancing, delicious food headlined by chefs Lydia Shire and Douglass Williams. Amazing auction items and more will be available—all in support of increasing on-site AED/defibrillator availability at sporting events beyond the current limited requirements at health clubs and schools. The event memorializes Preston Blair Settles, who passed away at just 15 years old due to a sudden cardiac arrest caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) while playing basketball.

Open Streets events will include Dot, Blue Hill Aves— The city of Boston’s Open Streets series will return to Dorchester Avenue in September and will for the first time extend to Mattapan Square. Mayor Wu announced the schedule for the fourth annual car-free event series during a recent visit to Mattapan. The Dorchester Avenue event will take place on Sun., Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m between Ashmont Street and Adams Street in Fields Corner. The Mattapan event will close off Blue Hill Avenue between River and Babson streets on Oct. 18. Other car-free events will be staged on Blue Hill Ave. in Roxbury (July 12), Hyde Park Ave. and River Street in Hyde Park (Aug. 10), and Centre Street in Jamaica Plain (November 2).
