Paul Downey, a former Boston Police sergeant, was arraigned last week in Dorchester Municipal Court on child rape charges that he paid to have sex with a 14-year-old in a South Bay Mall parking lot. WCVB reports Downey met the boy on Grindr on March 26, after which they moved their discussion to Snapchat and allegedly agreed on a $30 price tag for a meeting in Dorchester. Downey was charged with four counts of aggravated rape of a child, two counts of paying for sex with a minor and two counts of electronic enticement of a minor, according to court records. The Boston Globe reported that Downey’s bail was reduced from $250,000 to $50,000 during a hearing on Monday.

Two shot in Lower Mills early on Sunday— A 21-year-old man was found with life-threatening gunshot injuries early Sunday morning near the Milton-Dorchester line in Lower Mills. Milton Police report that the victim was found on Wharf Street near Milton Landing around 3:50 a.m. According to WCVB-TV, a second victim was found in the area of 859 Adams St. in Dorchester at 4:06 a.m. Both were taken to a Boston hospital. Milton, Boston, and State Police are all part of the investigation. No arrests have been reported.

Boston Police last Sunday arrested a 14-year-old boy who was reportedly carrying a gun with one round in the chambers and nine in a magazine. Police say he was among a group of people at a loud house party on Alexander Street that drew a police response around 1 a.m.

Boston Police arrested three men last Monday (June 30) and charged them with selling drugs out of the window of a house at 135 East Cottage St. in Dorchester. A BPD report said the arrests came after surveillance “as part of a drug investigation to address ongoing community complaints.” Arrested were Ramon Pinnick, 34, and Andry Materano-Barreto, 25, both of Dorchester, and Celso Depina, 37, of Mattapan.

A woman standing at a bus stop on Blue Hill Avenue near Morton Street around 5:40 a.m. on July 1 was stabbed by a woman she didn’t know, according to a BPD report. As Boston EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening, police from B-3 used the description provided to locate a suspect, Kimberly Murray-Moore, 32, of Dorchester, at a gas station near the intersection of Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue.

During the arrest, she actively resisted and assaulted two officers by striking one in the chest and the other in the face. Neither officer sustained injuries. Murray-Moore was already wanted on a separate warrant issued last month for assault with a dangerous weapon, according to a BPD account.

A young man was shot near the Mattapan branch of the Boston Public Library last Saturday (July 5) around 6:15 p.m. Police were called to the rear of the library along Norfolk Street where they found the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. A responding officer applied a tourniquet to the victim until EMS arrived to take him to the hospital. No arrests have been reported.

A 29-year-old man who reportedly brandished a taser and assaulted an employee as he robbed the BD’s furniture store in Grove Hall last week is facing several charges after police arrested him shortly after the incident. Police say the suspect— Nirael Simmons-Davis— “put several items from the store in a bag and tried to leave without paying,” pointing a taser at an employee before assaulting an employee and taking off on an electric scooter.

Officers searching for Simmons-Davis say he tried to evade them on the scooter and “violently resisted arrest.” His bail was set at $1,000.

Simmons-Davis has a Board of Probation record consisting of a firearm charge in 2019 and larceny and assault charges, for which he served time for, in 2016.

He is due back in court on July 29 for a probable cause hearing.

One person was shot and injured during a chaotic scene on July 4th in Mattapan’s Edgewater Drive neighborhood, where police say a crowd of as many as 800 people gathered into the early morning hours of July 5. Police in the vicinity say they heard several gunshots just after 2 a.m. and found a person suffering from two wounds outside of 605 River St. Officers treated the wounded person with a tourniquet before an EMS crew transported the man to a Boston hospital. Nine shell casings were found at the scene, according to a BPD report reviewed by the Reporter. Police say two firearms were recovered from the scene.
