After moving to Dorchester from Haiti in the spring of 2023, Keren “Nickey” Cezar enrolled at Roxbury Community College (RCC) to pursue a degree in theater arts. During her time at RCC, Cezar worked in the Student Learning Center; was a member of the softball, volleyball and basketball teams; served as the Student Trustee to advocate for her fellow classmates; and was a part of the Student Government Association (SGA), which gave her the opportunity to lobby at the State House.
“The minute I stepped onto RCC’s campus, it was so natural. It felt like I was where I belonged,” said Cezar. “The faculty, my fellow students, and the broader community helped motivate me to pursue my dreams and tangibly supported the steps I needed to take to get there.”
Cezar will be continuing her studies at Emerson this fall, where she will pursue a degree in business of creative enterprise. Having attended law school in Haiti, she is working toward becoming a producer or entertainment lawyer to support the next generation of artists.
