A heat emergency is now in effect for the City of Boston through Friday, July 18 with temps ranging from 91 degrees to 97 degrees in the daytime and “little relief” overnight, according to a statement from city officials.

“Our top priority is to protect the health and safety of all Bostonians, especially our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “As temperatures continue to rise, the City is here to support residents in every way possible, and we continue to ask community members to please take care and prepare accordingly for the extreme heat.”

The extreme heat is often accompanied by an uptick in emergency calls to first responders, the mayor said.

City community centers and library branches will be open to as “cooling centers” with several city pools and “splash pads” available as well.
