The Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) and a coalition of regional partners are calling for volunteers to help with the Neponset River Fall Cleanup on Sat., Sept. 27. Volunteers will gather at sites in Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Milton, Quincy, and other upstream communities to remove trash and invasive species.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited, but children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

“Removing litter like plastics and tires from the environment reduces the leaching of chemicals harmful to fish, reduces the amount of microplastics introduced to these ecosystems, and makes these sites more enjoyable for recreation,” said Sean McCanty, River Restoration Director at NepRWA.

The group’s biannual cleanups have removed over 50 tons of trash and debris from the Neponset Watershed in the last 10 years.

If you are interested in joining, please pre-register at neponset.org/cleanup. You can select your preferred cleanup site during registration. All necessary equipment – trash bags, gloves, and tools – will be provided on-site.
