A privately owned vacant lot behind the Engine 18 firehouse in Peabody Square would be acquired by the city of Boston for $1.3 million to allow for the facility to expand on the site in the future, according to an agreement letter posted on the Boston Planning Dept. website.

The 3,900-square-foot parcel at 11 Ashmont Park is 65 feet deep and was last sold to an LLC managed by Ryan Maguire in August for $500,000.

A meeting to discuss the proposed acquisition and the Boston Fire Department’s plan to improve the firehouse is set for Tues., Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. See notices on Pages 18 and 21 for link information.

According to the letter, “the acquisition and development of the 11Ashmont Park site will be a unique and innovative approach by the BPDA to allow for the renovation and development of the BFD’s Engine 18 fire station, which has been in less than acceptable conditions for years.”

The development, Maguire writes in the letter, “will occur on a site that is currently blighted and decadent.”

Comments on the proposal are also welcome, according to the planning agency. Send letters by email to Benjamin.merker@boston.gov.
