Intramural Floor Hockey Program
The 18-team Intramural Floor Hockey program is nearing the end of regular season play with the play-off tournaments for all four divisions right around the corner. In the Boys 10 & under division the Maple Leafs are all alone in first place with a perfect 7-0 record followed by the Sabres at 6-1, Sharks and Avalanche at 3-4, the Whalers at 2-5 and the Red Wings at 0-7. In games from the past week the first of three saw the Maple Leafs defeat the Red Wings by a score of 4-1. Sam Mastrogiacomo (4 goals) and Jamir Sobers (1 goal) provided the offense for the Maple Leafs and Red Wings respectively. In the second game the Sharks, behind the offense of Brian Hood (4 goals) and Eben Butler (1 goal) defeated the Whalers 5-4 in overtime. Leading the Whalers were Brendan White (3 goals) and Brian Anton (1 goal). In the final game the Sabres defeated the Avalanche 7-2. Charles Curd (3 goals), Jon Cooper (2 goals), Oliver Culliton (1 goal) and Jared McLeod (1 goal) scored for the Sabres while the Avalanche were led by Owen Gormley (1 goal) and Floyd Jacobs (1 goal). In the Girls 10 & under division the Bruins are in first place with a record of 5-1 followed by the Black Hawks at 3-3 and the Oilers and North Stars tied at 2-4. In the first of two games held this past Friday the North Stars defeated the Black Hawks 3-1. Shenice Reeves (2 goals) and Abby Aiguier (1 goal) scored for the North Stars while the Black Hawks were led by Kate McGrath (1 goal). In the second game the Bruins needed overtime to defeat the Oilers 4-3. Michelle Beazley (2 goals), Tyalie Campbell (1 goal) and Sarina White (1 goal) led the Bruins while Enilda Lopes-Hunt (1 goal), Armani Monteiro (1 goal) and Sarah O’Donovan (1 goal) led the Oilers. In the Girls 18 & under division the Devils are holding on to first place with a record of 4-2 followed closely by the Blues and Lightning at 3-3 and the Flames at 2-4. In the first of two games played last Friday evening the Lightning captured a thrilling 7-6 win over the Devils. Leading the way for the Lightning were Jessica Teixeira (4 goals), Tayla Duarte (1 goal), Rebecca McNealy (1 goal) and Angie Viloria (1 goal) while the Devils were led by Aisling Kerr (3 goals), Aissa Duarte (2 goals) and Niamh Kerr (1 goal). In the late game the Blues, behind the offense of Christina Lafferty (3 goals), Darby McLaughlin (1 goal) and Jennifer Tavares (1 goal) defeated the Flames 5-2. Noreen Walsh (1 goal) and Jennifer Alves (1 goal) provided the offense for the Flames. On Saturday afternoon the first of two games in the Boys 14 & under division saw the Canadiens defeat the Capitals 9-1. Evandro Teixeira (4 goals), Sam Mastrogiacomo (3 goals), Nick Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) and Jake Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) provided the scoring for the Canadiens while Emoni Vicente (1 goal) led the Capitals. In the second game the Flyers used a late rally to overtake the Islanders 5-4. Edison Vazquez (3 goals), Francis DePina (1 goal) and Walter Dew-Hollis (1 goal) led the Flyers while the Islanders were led by Brendan Woods (3 goals) and Saide Smith (1 goal). The current standings after last week’s games has the Canadiens in first place with a perfect 6-0 record followed by the Capitals at 3-3, the Flyers at 2-4 and the Islanders at 1-5. Walter Denney Youth Center News
Our Denney Center Unit, located in the Harbor Point Housing complex offers drop-in activities for ages 8 to 18 as well as a licensed childcare program for ages 5 to 12. The after-school drop-in program offers activities from 3:00 to 6:00 for ages 8-12. These activities include our Tutoring program with U-Mass Boston, Torch Club, Health & Fitness, Fine Arts classes and the Kids Café program to name a few. Our teen members can attend weeknights from 6:00 to 9:00 and can take part in activities at the McCormack Gym, Stonehill Tutoring (off-site), Keystone Club, Munch & Mingle, Philosophy Club and more. In addition to these activities we also offer field trips, a monthly Parents Forum, the Career Prep Jobs program and will host our Annual Thanksgiving Family Dinner this coming Friday (11/20). The licensed Childcare program is for ages 5 to 12 and includes a before-school component, extended hours during school vacations and the program accepts vouchers for eligible families.
