Five stories, five handguns in 2,370 minutes

I hope

..

I hope you all enjoyed Dorchester Day, the weather certainly cooperated. ‘Dot Day’ helps to show all the positive things and wonderful people who reside here in our little slice of heaven. But unfortunately there are those among us whose actions the mainstream media would rather report on that than the parade that crawls along Dorchester Ave. on the first Sunday in June every year. These are nitwits I report to you every now and then. The following is a 39 1/2-hour and a half hour synopsis on a collective group of idiots who keep Dorchester in the glare of the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

April 22, 1:57 a.m.

Several officers responded to a radio call for a report of shots fired after a house party near Park and Vinson Streets. On arrival the officers found a number of people milling around the outside of the house in question and two people hiding in the back of the building. One spent shell casing was found on the street but no victims, guns or witnesses came forward. The six individuals who were stopped were released after officers gathered up their personal information and told to leave the area immediately. It was at this time that a small white Honda pulled up and the six piled into it. Seven people in a vehicle that would sit four comfortably. The car then sped up Park Street passing a marked cruiser and turned (without directional) onto Claybourne Street. The vehicle was then pulled over and as Officer Cepeda approached, the passenger door quickly opened and the passenger threw a portable child car seat at him and attempted to flee, but was unsuccessful. Everyone in the vehicle was removed and lo and behold lying on the floor in the rear of the car was a KBI .380 caliber handgun loaded with six rounds. No one in the car claimed ownership so all seven of them were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and three additional counts.

April 22, 3:29 a.m.

One block and two hours later the shotspotter system alerted officers to three shots being fired on Tonawanda Street. Arriving officers could still smell the gunpowder in the air. A witness stated that they heard three shots fired and when they went to investigate they observed a man walk up to the front of the house and fire three shots into the air then calmly turn around and enter a Nissan with Massachusetts tags and tinted windows. A vehicle matching the description was stopped on Columbia Road containing a 30-year-old West Roxbury man and 22-year-old Roslindale man who matched the suspect’s description. The glove compartment was open and in plain view was a black Highpoint 9mm firearm loaded with five rounds. Both losers were arrested and charged with six felonies. Lord knows what they were trying to prove or accomplish. Idiots.

April 23, 7:32 a.m.

Officers from the BPD Fugitive Unit were assisting the Mass. State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at a Mt. Ida Road home searching for a suspect who had shot and wounded a pregnant woman in Lowell. On arrival the officers were allowed entry by the apartment’s owner and located in a back bedroom was a man who was known to the officers to have warrants and the man’s girlfriend. The detectives asked the man for some form of identification and he told them to look in his pants lying atop a large plastic container which held childrens toys. Resting on top of the pants was a large backpack which contained some heavy items. When the detective attempted to move the bag he felt the outline of a firearm. When he looked inside he saw a computer, several pieces of jewelry, a police scanner and a Rugar .357 Magnum handgun containing one round of ammo. The three of them were then taken on field trip to the nearest hoosegow.

April 23, 11:59 a.m.

A gentleman cleaning up around his Glendale Street property found a Rugar .22 caliber handgun wrapped up in a white plastic bag. The firearm was loaded with five live rounds. The gun was discovered in the rear of the building near some barrels. Thank God a responsible adult found the gun before some curious neighborhood child.

April 23, 3:35 p.m.

Officers Arajuo and Canuto were investigating an individual at Olney and Inwood Streets pertaining to a brazen daytime shooting on Bowdoin Street. During questioning the officers observed a man riding a bike toward them with one hand, his other hand pressed firmly against the right side of his pants. So firm that you could actually see the outline of a firearm inside his right pocket as he pedalled, ever faster, by them. The officers tried to run toward and up to the suspect but he dumped the bike and ran behind a Norton Street home before making good his escape. While the officers searched for the suspect behind the Norton Street residence they found a Parabullam 9mm handgun with one round in the chamber and 14 more in the clip. They also found a gold colored necklace medallion (a Jesus piece; go figure).

Five short stories and five handguns in 2,370 minutes beats out the four handguns (1-357 Magnum, 1-Lorcin 25 caliber, 1-38 Special, and 1-.45 caliber handgun from four incidents during March 19-22, 2009. Let’s hope that this summer is a quiet one. Fingers crossed.
