Intramural Basketball Program
The 14-team Winter Intramural Basketball program has completed week number six of regular season play with 7 games held over three days. On Thursday, the first of three games in the Boys Low Rim division saw the Lakers defeat the Bulls 33-26. Walter Dew-Hollis (18) and Joshua Herron (7) led the Lakers while Romeo Miller (9) and Ryan Mikalauskis (7) led the Bulls. In the second game the Hawks, behind Malik Brown (14) and Pedro Lopes (4) defeated the Pistons 20-16. Leading the offense for the Pistons were Floyd Jacobs (5), Darius Hinds (4) and Saide Smith (4). In the final game of the evening it was the Celtics defeating the Knicks 27-24. Le-Zhan DosSantos (15), James Anderson (4) and Malik Montrond (4) led the Celtics while the Knicks were led by Jayden DePina (12), Brendan White (4) and Sebastian Joseph (4). Current standings have the Hawks all alone in first place at 6-0 followed by the Lakers at 5-1, Knicks at 3-3, Celtics at 2-4 and the Bulls and Pistons at 1-5. On Friday afternoon the first of two games in the Girls Low Rim division saw the Clippers top the Rockets 23-12. The Clippers were led by Tyalie Campbell (8) and Armani Monteiro (7) while the Rockets were led by the tandem of Jennifer Colon (7) and Ednilda Lopes-Hunt (3). In the late game the Warriors defeated the Mavericks 24-12. D’Mitra Weathers (12) and Victoria Andrews (8) led the Warriors while Kiara Lodge (10) and Aicha Tavares (2) led the Mavericks. After six weeks of play the standings have the Clippers all alone in first place at 6-0, the Warriors at 3-3, Rockets at 2-4 and the Mavericks at 1-5. On Saturday morning, the first of two games in the 14 & under division saw the Cavs defeat the Pacers 48-40. Philip Lodge (21) and Matt Papalambros (17) led the Cavs while Emoni Vicente (17) and Jamari Jackson (9) led the Pacers. In the second game the Nuggets, behind the duo of Jordan Williams (20) and Eduardo DeLeon (17), defeated the Sixers 57-54. The Sixers were led by Kaylab Silva (26) and the trio of Maxwell Spinola (4), James Alves (4) and Aloisio Barbosa (4). Standings for the division finds the Cavs in first place at 4-2 followed by the Sixers and Nuggets tied at 3-3 and the Pacers at 2-4. Teen Program News
The Teen Program at the Club is packed with activities for members ages 13-18. Upcoming events include a Black History Month Celebration (2/24) a trip to the Movies (3/5) and the Spring Dance & Fashion Show (3/12). Other special activities include the submission of an entry into Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s Digital Arts Competition (2/28), the Youth of the Year program Finalist Interviews (3/1) and members attending an Indoor Soccer Tournament at the Waltham Boys and Girls Club (3/5). These activities compliment on-site tournaments, computers, video games and table games that teen members can utilize weekdays from 3:00 – 8:30 p.m. We also offer small group clubs such as Girls Group, Boys Group, Teen Magazine, Open Cook and Girls Night. Our Keystone Club leadership program will be hosting an outing to Laser Zone (2/28), wrapping up fundraising efforts for the Haiti Relief Fund and beginning a Winter Raffle. Other upcoming projects include volunteering at The Greater Boston Food Bank, Special Olympics and with the Boston Shines event. Walter Denney Youth Center News
Our Denney Center Clubhouse, located in the Harbor Point section of Dorchester, has several special events approaching for members of all ages. Upcoming trips include the Ice Capades (2/18), Skiing (2/20) and Bowling (2/26). On-site activities approaching include the teen Munch & Mingle (2/24) and Parent Forum (2/25). Looking ahead to March, we will celebrate our 7-year Anniversary at the Harbor Point community with a celebration for our members, their parents and residents of the development (3/17). There will be tours, games, free memberships, snacks and more. In addition to all of the events mentioned there are ongoing programs such as U-Mass Tutoring, Walking Club, Kids Café, Stonehill Tutoring, Art Classes, Keystone Club, Career Prep activities, Torch Club, McCormack gym for teens and more. We also offer a licensed Childcare program for ages 5 to 12 which includes a before school component and extended days during the school vacations. The program also accepts vouchers.
