Teen Program News
The Teen program at the Club offers a variety of on-site activities weekday afternoons and evenings for ages 13 to 18. The Teen Center houses a computer lab, table games, various board/video games and a brand new Music Clubhouse. In addition, there are small group clubs for members to enjoy including the Girls Group, Teen Magazine, Cooking Club and the Boys Group. These activities are in addition to upcoming November events which include a trip to the West End House Open Mic Night (11/6), a trip to the Wheelock Family Theater (11/20) and a Thanksgiving Dinner (11/24). Two additional Teen programs include the Keystone Club and the Career Prep program. The Keystone Club is our leadership development program for teens and meets every other week to plan community service projects, fundraisers and social activities. Recently, the teen members of the group elected their officers for the upcoming year and are now busy planning projects for the remainder of 2009 and into 2010. We congratulate the following members who were elected by their peers to lead the group for the new year: President – David Cotter, Vice President – Regina Crawford, Treasurer – Jackie Wyse and Secretary – Noreen Walsh. Upcoming projects include a weekly tutoring program with younger Club members, a service project with The Greater Boston Food Bank and the Senior Citizen Holiday Dinner. The Career Prep program works with eligible teen members to secure after-school employment positions within the Club. Thanks to our partnership with the Boston Youth Fund and Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s After-School Jobs Program, 22 teens will be employed for 10 hours per week from November through late May spread over all three sites. For more info on any of the Teen programs being offered please contact Xiomara Alicea or Tome’ Andrade at (617) 288-7120, ext. 1420.
