April Program Highlights
The month of April kicks-off our Spring program which will run through the end of June. Currently, there are a number of special activities scheduled to take place in all program areas. In our Aquatic program we will begin accepting registrations for the 6-team Intramural Swim League on April 6. After hosting try-outs for new simmers (50 yd. swim) we will begin team practices and meets the week of April 27. The Spring session of Swim Lessons will continue through the month (excluding the school break) and four members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will close out their season by attending the Boys and Girls Club National Championship Meet in St. Petersburg, FL (April 8 – 12). In our Fine Arts & Music program we will begin the Spring session of Fine Arts classes (painting, sculpture, drawing, girls art and boys Art) the week of April 6. This date also marks the start of our small group evening classes in Drama, Photography and Teen Arts. Later in the month we will also be taking works from our recent Photography Club exhibit to be entered into Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s National Photography competition. In addition, our Music instruction program will continue weekly open, individual and small group classes on a weekly basis. In our Education program we will continue Homework Help (Mon. – Thurs.) and One-to-One Tutoring through the month (excluding the school vacation) and will also be taking a tour of Stonehill College on April 21. In our Athletics program we will kick-off the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League (ages 13-18) on April 7 as well as our Clinic (ages 6 & 7) and 4-team Intramural (ages 8-12) Indoor Soccer program on April 10.
We also have three teams from our Winter All-Sar Basketball program competing in the play-off tournament. The 15&U Boys will be traveling to the West End House; the 12&U Girls will be traveling to Chelsea, and the 12&U Boys will be hosting the Newton Club (April 1). If any of these teams emerge victorious they will play in the Championship games scheduled for April 4 at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Other Athletic events include the Gymnastics Recital (April 13) and the start-up for our All-Star Indoor Soccer (ages 8-12) and Flag Football (ages 12-15) seasons against Clubs from the region. At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, events upcoming include: the start of our 5-week Nutrition Education class with The Greater Boston Food Bank (April 1), Cooking Club (April 6), the Teen Munch & Mingle (April 15), a 3-day retreat to Cape Cod (April 17-19), a trip to the Museum of Science/Omni Theater (April 21) and the Parents Forum (April 22).
In our Teen program there will be trips to the Movies (April 3), Dinner (April 17) and the 2-day Cyber Summit (April 24 & 25). We will also be taking members to the Belle of the Ball Event at Simmons College (April 18), hosting the Munch & Mingle (April 29) and taking part in the state-wide Youth of the Year competition in Marlboro (April 30).
In addition the members of the Keystone Club will be hosting an inter-club Scavenger Hunt (April 11) and taking part in the Boston Shines city-wide Clean-up (April 25). In our Social Recreation program we will offer trips to the Movies (April 17), Build-a-Bear (April 22) and Laser Zone (April 24). We will also be hosting a Family Fun Night (April 2), a Games Room Festival (April 6), a Talent Show (April 23) and registration night for Camp Northbound (April 29). April School Vacation Week
There will be a variety of program opportunities available to members during the upcoming school vacation. The Club will be closed on April 20 to celebrate the Patriot’s Day holiday then will re-open for the School Vacation Week from Tuesday, April 21 through Saturday, April 25 with hours from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for members age 8 to 12. The Teen program will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
There will be a variety of activities and special events for members of all ages to participate in during the vacation week, including the Kids café program each afternoon at 1 p.m. Please note that hours for our Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Parents, remember that all Bantams will need to be picked up promptly at 1. There will be specific activities each day for this age group.
