The Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School on Columbia Rd. has been named an “Apple Distinguished School†for technology innovation. It is the only school in Massachusetts and one of only 33 schools across the country to earn the distinction this year.
John Couch, Apple Vice President for Education, said the Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that have achieved a 21st century vision of education utilizing Apple technology.
“In reviewing the great work that is underway at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School, I was especially impressed by the school’s success in using technology to increase engagement and achievement with students, as well as communication and interaction with their parents and teachers,†said Couch. “We are proud to be part of an effort that is, in my view, a model for other schools around the country.â€
Dr. Carol R. Johnson, Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, congratulated Principal Debra Socia, as well as staff, families, students, and community partners, on receiving the award.
