It’s rare that a forum occurs this close to an election day. But MassVOTE, a voting rights group is hosting a District 2 forum in Chinatown tonight.
With the preliminary on Sept. 27, three candidates are running in that race: incumbent City Councillor Bill Linehan, former principal Suzanne Lee and South Boston resident Bob Ferrara.
The forum is set to start at 5:30 at inside the Josiah Quincy Elementary School’s auditorium.
As the incumbent, Linehan remains the favorite in what’s been a quiet race.
But Lee, who was principal at the Josiah Quincy, has been garnering attention since she kicked off her campaign.
She went door-knocking in the St. Margaret’s area (which had mostly Linehan signs, and some Ferrara signs, there) last week, and the Reporter was there to cover it.
She sought to connect with the voters who answered the door, pitching her time as an educator. But she would light up when a child joined them, and in one or two cases, she was familiar with their classmates. (“Eight hundred and twenty students, and I still remember their names,” she said after encounter with a parent and her son.)
Most insiders expect Lee to do well in some areas, except for South Boston. As David Bernstein noted on his Talking Politics blog yesterday, “Insiders doubt that she can overcome Linehan’s voter base, but the possibility has a lot of progressives fired up about the race.”
