Neponset Avenue and McKone Street is not just another corner to Jimmy King. It's the corner his son Army Private Kevin J. King left behind his childhood to serve his country.
At 19, Kevin was killed during training exercises as he prepared to deploy for Iraq last April. Those close to him hope to dedicate that corner as a Hero Square in his memory. The first step will likely take place this week, when City Council President Maureen Feeney proposes the resolution to initiate the square during the council session. Read more

When the kids of Dorchester Youth Hockey take to the ice in this season they will notice some significant changes to their surroundings. During the off-season the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) which operates their home ice, the Devine Memorial rink on Morrissey Boulevard, was able to make marked improvements. Well over 100 teens from Cedar Grove and Neponset have been summonsed into Dorchester district court in recent weeks and months in an aggressive attempt by State Police to curb loitering, vandalism and underage drinking in local parks. The increased law enforcement pressure comes as parents are meeting with mixed success in trying to lure teens off the streets and into programs at a city-run community center. Read more
