Irish pub that plans live music approved in Adams Village

The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday approved plans by Frank Delaney and Teresa Murphy to replace the short-lived Scobie’s, 782 Adams St. in Dorchester, with the Session House, which will feature Irish pub grub accompanied by Irish seisiún music – much of it by local musicians.
If Angel Monét Ledbetter-Glaude can’t say it with music, her puppets will fill in the gaps. Monét, 58, and her son, Dominic, 26, are just hitting their stride with two puppets named ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Boogie’ coming off their fourth successful House of Inspiration (HOI) Family Music and Arts Festival in Almont Park this summer.
English High School alumni will gather at Dorchester’s Florian Hall next month for an all-class reunion that will offer a special tribute to two graduates who served with the famed Tuskegee Airmen.
The Boston Home on Dorchester Avenue took first place in the 30th annual Mayor’s Garden Contest last month – piggybacking on their third place finish last year and qualifying them for the “Hall of Fame” next year.
The home, which primarily serves adults with multiple sclerosis (MS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), won in the ‘Storefront, Organization, or Main Street District’ category and was happy to celebrate this month at the home. Liz Flanagan, of The Boston Home, claimed their prize at a gala event on Aug. 17 with Mayor Michelle Wu.
The dinner was an annual event with a small group of people (about 50) who have been involved with former US Attorney General Eric Holder, who heads up the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
Fifty years ago, as a young student at UMass Boston, I enrolled in Professor Connie Veenendaal’s course on American poetry. I had no talent for poetry but thoroughly enjoyed and remember how she guided us through an exploration of American poetry and encouraged us to pursue our own poetics.
